Féline Meow

Wearing:
Tee - Custom from Etsy, Jacket - Forever 21, Skirt - Target, Boots - Dr. Martens

Nothing too interesting today.  Last month for my birthday my mom got me this Féline Meow t-shirt, however when we received it from Etsy, it was missing the accent aigu above the "e".  So we went to Michael's and bought some iron on letters and made our own accent aigu.  Unfortunately, we were just able to iron on the accent this past weekend because both of us have a rather busy schedule right now.  The important thing is, we finally finished it, so I decided to wear it!  I'm sure, if you've been following my posts, you know how much I love black and white.  So, "shockingly" I paired this with a black neoprene skirt and my black and white jacket from Forever 21.  I really liked how even though I'm wearing only black and white, the shapes and styles manage to balance and contrast between each other.  The skirt is a fun, flirty shape with a bit of volume, while the jacket has a very strong men's shape.
When I took these photos it was so warm!  I was able to take off my jacket and feel perfectly warm.  Yet March where I live, I can easily experience all four seasons in one day, let alone one week.  So as I write this, snow is falling.  Actually, not just falling... It. Is. Pouring.  We have literally had six months of winter (it's been snowing since the beginning of October).  Maybe, just maybe, next month will actually be warm.

I May Have an Obsession....

Purses?
Yep.
Shoes?
Definitely.
But I would say my possible (did I say possible?  I meant definite) number one obsession is... magazines!

If you don't see a magazine obsession here then you probably have it worse than I do.
I counted my magazines here and I have 110 magazines on the shelf, 6 not pictured, and at least 2 missing magazines.  Why do I have so many magazines, one may ask?  Well...
1.  I have subscriptions to three different magazines: Vogue (my most recent subscription), Teen Vogue, and Seventeen.  The bottom shelf is filled entirely with Seventeens and Teen Vogues.  I have been subscribing to Seventeen magazine since I was in the 7th grade and have kept every issue since then.  (Unfortunately, at least two of those issues are missing!!  I'm keeping my eye out for those two.)
2.  Whenever I go on vacation, I always buy magazines as souvenirs.  When I travel to another country, I find it as a great glimpse into that culture.  In the top picture, I have French, British, and even an Arabic magazine!  Then if I'm in an airport waiting for a flight, I often find myself buying another magazine.
3.  I LOVE British magazines.  In fact, my dream is to work as a stylist at a British magazine.  So I insist on buying British magazines at Barnes & Noble and Hastings.  The bad thing about buying British magazines here in the US, is that the issues are about $10 an issue.  Some of my favorites are Elle UK, Company Magazine (I can only buy their bi-annual High Street Edits where I live), and In Style UK.  I looked into getting a subscription to one of those, but because of the shipping to the US from the UK it would cost over $100!!  So for now, I'll stick to buying the (more than) occasional issue.

What do you guys obsess over?  I also have a "slight" obsession with shoes!

Channeling Chanel

Wearing:
Jumper: Forever 21, Skirt: Target, Sneakers: Nike, Beanie: Target
Makeup:
Lipstick: Chanel in Extatique, Lipliner: NYX, Mascara: Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Retro Glam in Very Black

Not only were sneakers shown on the Fall Chanel runway this past month, but back in February they were also seen on the Chanel Couture runway.  Because of that, I decided that I needed to add sneakers to at least one of my outfits.  So for this outfit, I tried to look as Chanel as possible.  One of my close friends, a great fashion photographer, said that this skirt and top look very Chanel to him.  I hadn't paired this skirt and jumper together before, but I feel that the zippers on the skirt and the grommets on the jumper balance each other very well.  So after I paired those together, I added a studded beanie and some rings for some finishing touches.  And, of course, I paired my sneakers that look the most like the one from the Chanel runways.
After the outfit was complete, I realized that I actually own something Chanel... my Chanel Lipstick!  This worked exceptionally well with the outfit because the pink lipstick was almost an identical match for the pink in my shoes!

Check me out on Instagram!  I'm rather new to it and would love some followers.  The link is up on the right side, or you can just search "rockintherockiesstyle" on instagram itself.

Festival Ready

Wearing:
T-Shirt: The Art Institute of Chicago, Cardigan: Forever 21, Jeans: Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohls, Boots: Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohls, Bowler Hat: H&M, Bag: Red by Marc Ecko

It's festival season!  I think it would amazing to go to a festival like SXSW or Coachella.  But, *sigh*, they are so far away.  Well, if I ever have the chance to go, I think I would wear something like this.  It seems like most people tend to wear boho inspired outfits at festivals, but my wardrobe mainly consists of black and white items.  So I took my t-shirt that I purchased at the Art Institute of Chicago this past summer and paired it with some skinny jeans.  Then I tied my cardigan around my waist and completed the look with my new ankle boots from Kohls and a nice cross body bag.

What do you think of my festival inspired look?  What would you wear a festival?

Inspired by Street Style

I love looking at street style photos.  I'm the type of person who can browse on Pinterest for over an hour just looking at street style photos.  So I always find some inspiration from various street style looks.  Normally I'm not one to be so directly inspired by a specific look.  However, when I saw this look I realized that I owned many similar items.  I guess you could consider this a "look for less".  Of course there are some differences between our looks:  her boots are over the knee while mine not even to the knee,  her purse has fringe while mine doesn't, and there's the fact that I'm much more... busty than her.  Other than those few differences, I think I did a rather nice job of recreating this look.
Street style can seem so intimidating.  With so many street style stars (Alexa Chung, Miroslava Duma, Anna dello Russo), and so many beautiful designers being worn, it can seem impossible to ever achieve the look.  What I've come to realize is that it doesn't require designer clothes to have an amazing, street-style worthy outfit.  I just take some of my favorite pieces and put them together in interesting and unexpected ways.  Of course I would love a Chanel purse to add or some Prada heels to rock, but I know that won't be happening for a long time.  But everyone can make their outfit incredible just by adding their own personal touches.

Don't mind my hair in some of the pictures!  I had recently taken a shower, and my hair takes forever to dry.  So when I went outside to take the pictures most of it had already dried, but some of it managed to clump together and freeze.  Perks of living in the mountains.

Feeling Monochrome

Wearing:
Jacket: Forever 21, Jeans: Topshop, Boots: Dr. Martens, T-shirt: DIY

I took these photos on Tuesday, the day of this blog's anniversary!  Along with the white leather jacket I wore in my "Layering Leather and Fur" post, I also purchased this black and white jacket.  I had a bit of trouble finding a way to style this jacket.  This jacket is called "borrowed from the boys" on the website, so it has a very masculine shape to this.  I ordered a size up than I normally do (Forever 21 tends to run a bit small), so because of the masculine shape it is a bit big on me.  Luckily, as of right now, oversized seems to be in!  I finally figured out how to style the jacket when I realized that Tuesday was the Chanel fashion show.  I would love to be able to say that I threw on my Chanel boots and purse, but, unfortunately, I can't afford Chanel.  So I paired it with my DIY "Karl Who?" tee.  (I wish I had a better close-up photo of the tee.)  Then since the jacket is oversized, I also wore my skinny Topshop jeans and my classic Dr. Martens.  After I put the whole outfit together, I felt very satisfied with the result.

Did you guys see the Chanel show on Tuesday?  The grocery store was both crazy and amazing!  What I was most surprised about was how Kendall Jenner was in the show.  I have to say, as much as I don't want to admit it, she looked pretty good.

I just want to thank all of my followers again.  Last year was good, but let's make this year great!

One Year Anniversary!

One year ago today I started Rockin' the Rockies Style!  I would say that I started off to a rather slow start; I started by only posting once a month, sometimes even once every two months!  I would say now I'm much better at posting more often.  I am so envious of those who are able to post updates everyday.  I hope that by next year, I'm able to post interesting things everyday.
Thank you to all of my followers for keeping my courage up to keep up my posting.  I would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions.
