Oscar Dress Predictions 2016

The day is almost here!  Tomorrow is the Academy Awards, and I'm so excited!  As fun the actual awards are, my favorite part is definitely the red carpet.  The Oscars are when are the biggest designers are worn, and generally it's the best red carpet of the season.  I love trying to predict who and what the stars are going to wear; last year I posted my predictions, and though I didn't get any right, I liked some of my predictions better than what the stars actually wore.  This year I decided to up the ante and attempt to photoshop the dresses onto the stars.  I have never photoshopped before this, so I'm actually surprised that it turned out this well.  Anyway, here are my predictions:

BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
(from left to right)

Brie Larson - Giambattista Valli Spring 2016 Couture
Brie Larson is a shoe-in for the win.  So far this awards seasons she's been trying out my different designers and styles, however one thing that has been in all of her looks is that touch of sexiness.  This Giambattista gown would be perfect because of its classic shape with the sexy slit.

Saoirse Ronan - Schiaparelli Spring 2016 Couture
I love Schiaparelli, and I'm dying to see someone wear it to the Oscars.  When I first saw this gown it took my breath away, and it reminded me of the classicism that Saoirse wore to the Golden Globes.  She's gone a bit edgier with some of her other awards show looks, but I think for the Oscars she'll go back to more classic styles.

Jennifer Lawrence - Christian Dior Spring 2015 Couture
Obviously Jennifer Lawrence is going to wear Dior.  You don't see her as often wearing long sleeves, so I think this gown would look gorgeous on her and break from what she is often seen wearing.

Cate Blanchett - Armani Prive Spring 2016 Couture
Originally I picked this look for Cate, but after looking at her red carpet record I noticed that she almost never wears strapless.  With that in mind, I switched my pick to this one shouldered Armani.  Plus with its 1950s, it's reminiscent of the movie she's nominated for, Carol.

Charlotte Rampling - Balenciaga Resort 2016
I don't know as much about Charlotte Rampling as I do about the other nominees.  However after looking at some of her other red carpet looks, I see that she can definitely rock a suit.  This Balenciaga suit would fit her perfectly, while still being appropriate for the Oscars.

BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
(from left to right)

Alicia Vikander - Louis Vuitton Resort 2016
Alicia Vikander is currently Louis Vuitton's star child.  She's worn almost everything from Louis Vuitton for the past awards shows, so it's almost a guarantee that she'll go custom.  That being said, I hope the custom is inspired by this patterned one shoulder.

Kate Winslet - Pamella Roland Fall 2016
I had a tough time picking something for Kate Winslet.  She loves the body conscious mermaid, as she's worn that for every show this season.  But it was also difficult to find something that's clearly different from what she's already worn.  This season, she's yet to wear red, so I think this Pamella Roland would look amazing on her.

Rooney Mara - Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2016
Rooney Mara loves Alexander McQueen; she's worn tons of pieces from the SS16 collection.  She tends to stick to the same color palette of black, white, or blush, but I think gold would be just enough of a departure for her that she would absolutely rock it.

Jennifer Jason Lee - Pamella Roland Pre-Fall 2016
Jennifer Jason Lee was another difficult pick.  She's not a leader in the pack, meaning that she's often not focused on.  When I was looking at her red carpet history, 95% of the time she wears black.  I could very much see in this understated long sleeve gown.  However, I recently saw that she attended the Rodarte show at NYFW and loved it.  So if she were to wear a gown from there, I would guess this.

Rachel McAdams - Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2016
After seeing her gorgeous look at the SAGS, I think she'll go big at the Oscars.  This Carolina Herrera is feminine yet classic, just like Rachel.

BONUS:
PRESENTERS
Julianne Moore - Roberto Cavalli Pre-Fall 2016
Last year she won the award for Best Actress, which means this year she'll be presenting.  She's worn metallic a lot this season; this long sleeve gown has a touch of metallic sparkle on the cuffs of the sleeves, while still being rather sexy.

Patricia Arquette - Resetta Getty Fall 2016
Last year Patricia Arquette wore Rosetta Getty when she won her Oscar.  This year I suspect she'll be much more casual.  To me, this gown looks amazingly comfortable while still being stylish with its metallic sheen.

Daisy Ridley - Roksanda Pre-Fall 2016
Daisy Ridley is Hollywood's new It-Girl and will be presenting an award this year at the Oscars.  The first time people are invited they tend to either go fun or safe - I'm hoping for the latter.  Roksanda is a fun, London based brand, and with Daisy being British I could definitely see her wearing this brand.  I would guess that if she did wear this, the sleeves would be taken off, but even so it's still so fun!

Those are my predictions.  I really hope this years I get at least one right!

Bright

Wearing:
Coat - Forever 21, Shirt - Forever 21, Jeans - BDG from Urban Outfitters, Sneakers - Adidas Superstars, Purse - Clark's

Okay, so I may have slightly over exposed these photos.  I've been experimenting with some of the features on my camera, and ultimately these are a bit bright.  I'm also noticing that I really need to iron my coat - I swear the crease wasn't this noticeable when I took the pictures!
Anyway, the snow has amazingly started to melt away, meaning that I can start breaking out some different shoes.  Lately I've just been dying to wear my Adidas again, so that's where I began this look.  It being a school day, I went relatively casual by just wearing my favorite black jeans and a grey button up.  I've recently acquired a number of new coats, but I love the color of this coat with the grey shirt.
Who else is excited for the Oscars this weekend?  I love the awards show itself, but the red carpet is my favorite part of the show.  I'm most excited to see what Alicia Vikander and Brie Larson will be wearing; they're newcomers this red carpet season, but so far they've been slaying the game!  Sometime between now and Sunday (the day of the awards), I'll be posting my Oscar dress predictions.  See you soon!

Poor Choice of Shoes

Wearing:
Coat - gifted, Shirt - Primark, Jeans - BDG from Urban Outfitters, Boots - Steve Madden
Lipstick - M.A.C Red with Cherry Lip Liner

I love my leopard print boots - I really do.  However, they are probably one of the worst choices of shoes for winter.  These shoes have a very smooth bottom, making them almost impossible to wear when it's icy out, so usually I put them away sometime in November and don't bring them back out until April (yes, I really have to wait that long).  But when I put the rest of this outfit together, I knew that these leopard boots looked best with this brown coat and black jeans.  Ultimately, I didn't wear these boots to school; I've tripped one too many times on campus wearing more practical shoes than these.  But I put them on for the photos and ventured through the snow and ice.  I had to walk super slowly and take small steps, but I luckily didn't fall.  I'm hoping that this year the snow will melt early, and I'll be able to bring these back out in March!

Camel is the New Black

Wearing:
Jumper - New Look, Pinafore (worn as a Skirt) - Boohoo, Sneakers - Adidas, Bag - Oasis
Lipstick - L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss in Nude Allude

If someone were to ask what my favorite color is, after black, white, and grey, I might just have to say camel.  This color is a great neutral and is being seen everywhere thanks to the 1970s trend revival.  After my recent trip to England, I picked up a few more camel pieces - including this jumper.  Obviously I love the color of this, but I'm also obsessed with the neckline; it's not quite a turtle neck, but it's higher than a traditional round neck making it perfect for winter.  I paired this jumper with my denim pinafore but instead attempted layering the jumper over the pinafore, giving it the appearance of a skirt.  Finally I tossed on my Adidas, which ended up not being the best choice of shoes given the snow.

n i n e t e e n

Wearing:
Coat - Target, Dress - Zara, Boots - Monki, Sunglasses - Target
Makeup:
Lipstick - L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss 316 Statement Nude, Eyeshadow - Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon in Bronze Truffle

Nineteen.  Over the weekend I celebrated my nineteenth birthday; it was a pretty calm experience - no huge parties with lots of friends and family.  I just went to the movies with a friend and had cake afterwards.  However, this is one of the first birthdays where I actually felt older.  There's just something about the age 19; it's the last year where you're technically a teenager, but you're definitely a full on adult.  It was also a strange feeling because this will most likely be the last birthday that I celebrate at home.  I'm sure next year I'll really feel like an adult when I turn twenty, but until then I'll enjoy being nineteen.

(P.S.  Doesn't this coat kind of remind you of the It-Coat of the season from Acne?  One day I would love to own it, but this coat I found on the Target clearance rack for $15!  Definitely my steal of the season!)

Back in Town

Coat - Forever 21, Shirt - Forever 21, Jeans - BDG from Urban Outfitters, Boots - Monki, Purse - Clarks
Lipstick - Bareminerals Marvelous Moxie in Make Your Move

While I was in London, I was on the search for two items: a nice grey coat and a long, camel coat.  I found a great grey coat at John Lewis, but I just couldn't find a camel coat that I really liked.  At one point, I found one at Whistles that I liked, but it was so expensive and not exactly what I wanted, so I just couldn't pull the trigger.  On the way home, my mom and I had a day and a half layover in Seattle.  While I was there, I just popped into Forever 21, and low and behold there it was: the camel coat.  The best part?  It was only $50, so much cheaper than the ones I found in London.  I guess this just goes to show, that you shouldn't exclude Forever 21 - I'm always able to find great pieces there!
Now that I'm back home, it's back to the daily grind.  There's about a foot of snow outside, and the temperature is often around 10 degrees (Fahrenheit), but oh well, it's not surprising for here.  Just one more semester here, and maybe I'll be lucky enough to be living in London this time next year.
