Oscar Gown Predictions 2015

A bit of a different post from me.  But first I would just like to say I've been tinkering around a little bit with my blog, and I now have a title header and some new little details.  What do you think?  Now to the point of this post: for quite a few years now, I have been a die-hard Oscar fan (I blame my mother).  I've always been fascinated with the show, but in the recent years I've become much more excited about what everyone is going to wear.  This year, I decided at making a stab at trying to predict what everyone (and by everyone, I mean the female nominees and some other presenters) is going to wear.  Here we go:

Best Actress in a Leading Role

Julianne Moore - Marchesa Pre-Fall 2015

Julianne Moore is in lead for this award, so I think she needs something classic.  She's worn lots of colors so far this awards season, but this color she has yet to wear (it would also look great with her hair color).

Reese Witherspoon - Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2015

Reese Witherspoon is your all American classic girl.  Even though Oscar de la Renta isn't an American brand, it's always so classic.  Also, I believe that this was the final collection designed by Oscar before his passing, so someone just has to wear a dress from this collection.

Felicity Jones - Elie Saab Couture Spring 2015

Isn't this dress just gorgeous?  Since this is Felicity's first Academy Awards, I think she'll go all out by wearing this gorgeous, retro glamour, couture gown.

Marion Cotillard - Dior Couture Spring 2015

Everyone knows that Marion's going to wear Dior, so I think if this gown is made to be full length, it will be perfect for the Oscars.

Rosamund Pike - Zuhair Murad Pre-Fall 2015

So far this awards season, Rosamund has worn either black or white.  I think for the Oscars she should mix the two colors and wear one of these for the awards.  I love these two dresses; my favorite is the one on the left, but I think the one on the right is more appropriate for the Oscars.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role

Patricia Arquette - Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2015

This dress is great for Patricia because she loves her jewel tones and her curves.  This dress brings out both of those things.

Emma Stone - Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2015 (left) Christian Siriano Fall 2015 (right)

Emma has been the risk taker of the season.  I would love, love, love to see her in a full length/lined version of this Dolce dress, however I think this Christian Siriano gown is more appropriate for the Oscars but still has the edge that Emma's known for.

Keira Knightley - Chanel Couture Spring 2015 (left) Roksanda Pre-Fall 2015 (right)

Because Keira is pregnant this season, it was a bit harder to find a dress that I think will suit her for the Oscars.  Knowing that she does have a contract with Chanel, I think the pink gown on the left would a good prediction.  But I also found this Roksanda gown that I know would look amazing on her; and, knowing that Keira's British, Roksanda is a good London based brand.

Laura Dern - Alberta Ferretti Pre-Fall 2015

Laura Dern doesn't make a ton of appearances at awards shows, so I really have no idea what her style is.  I felt that this dress is classic but also age appropriate.

Meryl Streep - Carolina Herrera Resort 2015 (left) Lanvin Pre-Fall 2015 (right)

Meryl, Meryl, Meryl.  How many times has she been nominated?  The Herrera gown on the left is rather casual, but she's been to the Oscars enough.  I also picked this Lanvin gown because she's worn Lanvin to the last three ceremonies, so clearly she's a fan.

Presenters

Lupita N'yongo - Pamella Roland Resort 2015

Lupita: another fashion maven.  I picked this because, first of all it's to die for, but mainly because Lupita really hasn't worn this shape or color yet.

Cate Blanchett - Roland Mouret Pre-Fall 2015 (left) Balmain Spring 2015 (right)

Finally we have Ms. Cate Blanchett.  She's another one known to take risks.  This Roland Mouret would be pretty edgy for most, but for Cate it's really just another dress that she could rock any day.  This is why I am wishing for her to wear this amazing Balmain dress.  No one else will be wearing anything like this, and since she's not a nominee, she will completely stand out.

I hope you liked this post!  Happy Oscars!

Welcome Back, Snow

("Mom, I don't want to stand in the snow.")

Wearing:
Jacket - unknown, Blouse - Primark, Jeans - Simply Vera Wang (Kohls), Boots - Amazon

Like my caption above?  My mom almost always take the photos for my blog, and I appreciate it so much.  I'm always comfortable with her because, well, she's my mom, and we can make each other laugh but also get good shots.  However, sometimes her suggestions are... questionable.  "Why don't you stand in the snow?  Try posing next to that tree.  Go lean on the fence."  I love you Mom, but I don't always agree with all of your suggestions.  I'm sure many of you can relate to this.
For this look, I started with the jeans and the blouse.  After putting on the blouse, I wanted to bring out the white, which is why I chose this white leather jacket.  This jacket is one of favorites because I bought it in Paris over this past summer (and it has amazing detailing).  Finally I put on my new boots as the final touch.  I'm rather obsessed with these boots at the moment; I basically haven't taken them off since I got them last week.  To me, this is one of those outfits that's actually simpler than it looks.

Full Time

Wearing:
Jumper - River Island (Asos), Skirt - Target, Boots - Amazon, Phone Case - Etsy
Lipstick - M.A.C. Red with Cherry Lip Liner

I only wish I could be a full time fashion blogger.  My mom got me this lovely jumper for my birthday; it's way oversized (in a good way) and incredibly comfy.  I first spotted this jumper on numerous British bloggers, and I fell in love with it instantly.  After weeks of searching, I finally found it on the Asos website, where I then subtly dropped hints to my mom about wanting this for a birthday present.  With this jumper, my mom also got me this amazing Chanel iphone case (another example of me subtly dropping hints about gifts).  Its details are so on point, which I was rather surprised by since it was pretty inexpensive.  Because of the strap, it makes it perfect for occasions where all you need is your phone.
I have been waiting to wear this jumper because I just couldn't make a decision on what to pair with it.  After numerous pairings, I finally made my decision on this knit pencil skirt and my new ankle boots.  I recently order these boots off of Amazon after receiving an Amazon giftcard for my birthday.  I just have to say, these might be my new favorite boots.  They are actually really comfy, but they also go with everything.  When I ordered them, it said that they were shipping from the UK so the expected delivery date would be about a week.  However, they were dead wrong, as they arrived in two days; I repeat, two days.  I was very impressed.  Anyway, I added red lipstick as the final touch to this look to help tie in the phone case.

Pastel and Leopard

Wearing:
Blazer - Forever 21, Shirt - Pull & Bear, Trousers - Jennifer Lopez for Kohls, Boots - Steve Madden

I often find this blazer hard to style.  As much as I love the oversized quality to it, I sometimes find that it just looks shapeless.  I usually try to style it with skinny jeans, but more often than not, I feel top heavy.  I tried pairing it with these trousers instead, since they aren't skinny, and I think that the proportions work a lot better.  With those pieces I just added a simple, grey tee since I wanted most of the attention to go towards the blazer.  Keyword: most.  I've worn these leopard print ankle boots with pastels before, so I knew these would look great with the rest of the look.

Big Weekend

 Wearing:
Jumper - Target, Skirt - self made, Boots - DSW, Purse - Ross
Makeup
Eyes - Sephora It Palette Nude

I had a pretty big weekend (hence, the title of the post).  I traveled with my school to the state wide thespian festival, and we won!  So in June my school will be able to go to National festival.  However, that wasn't the highlight of my weekend: it was also my 18th birthday!  I'm now legally an adult; how exciting is that!
I wore this look on my birthday, as I always like to dress up in some way on the day.  It was surprisingly warm that day, so the tights really weren't that needed, but I thought they worked with the rest of the look.  I added the shoes last because I wasn't sure if I wanted to bring in another color or let the jumper be the sole color piece.  Eventually I put on these amazing velvet boots, which I felt worked amazingly with the color of the jumper.  I also wore my new favorite eye makeup from my Sephora palette; it has the perfect nude color.

"June-uary"

Wearing:
Chambray Shirt - Old Navy, Dress (worn as a skirt) - Target, Boots - New Look, Hat - H&M

I have needing a new chambray shirt since, what seems like, forever.  I was searching and searching, just not being able to find what I want (or the price I wanted to pay).  Luckily, after Christmas, my search cam to an end when I spotted this one at Old Navy.  It's way oversized (the size I'm wearing is a medium!), which I love.  Normally I pair it with black skinny jeans, but today I wanted to go for a different look.  I got this dress for back to school but don't wear it as often as I originally thought I would have (why? I'm not sure).  I was trying it on to see what I could layer with it and eventually came to this chambray.  After pairing these, I brought in the colors from the dress by wearing my black and white ankle boots and a black bowler hat.
In case you are wondering about the title, right now the weather here is unusually warm.  Even though it's unusually warm, it strangely happens every year around this time.  The other day, my AP psych teacher titled this weather perfectly: "June-uary."  It's almost as warm as June, but it's only January (I realize that I'm writing this in February, but it is still relevant).  Does this happen anywhere else where you get excited about it warming up, but it only lasts a week or so?  It's always so disappointing when it goes back to being cold.
