Goodnight

Wearing:
Coat - John Lewis, Shirt - Forever 21, Jeans - BDG (Urban Outfitters), Boots - Monki, Bag - Oasis

On my last night in London, my mom and I took a short walk around the neighborhood.  It wasn't anything too exciting, but it was nice to be able to take the time to appreciate where we were staying.  I've always adored the pastel homes that can be found all around London, so I loved that some were walking distance from where we were staying.  I think it worked well that I ended up wearing only black, white, and grey because it allowed for the houses (and my lipstick) to really stand out.
I've been home for about a month now, and I already desperately miss London.  This is my last London post from this trip, so that means "regular" posts will be back.  However, if all goes well, I'm hoping to be back in the UK this fall.  Let's see what happens....

Ponder Pink

Wearing:
Jacket - H&M, Trousers - TJ Maxx, Shirt - Forever 21, Sneakers - Adidas Superstar
Lipstick - M.A.C. Red with Cherry Liner

Amazingly I did not buy these trousers and this jacket together, or even from the same store!  It was just an incredible coincidence that both of these pieces are the exact same color.  So when I bought these trousers at the beginning of the summer, I just knew that I wanted to pair them with this jacket.  Even though I've had this outfit planned for months, I just now got around to shooting it.  The only good reason I can come up with for why it took so long is that it's finally cooled down enough so I can wear both the turtleneck and the jacket.  Whatever the reason, I'm so happy that I finally shot it because I really love this look!
In other news, I recently started the Parsons x Teen Vogue Online program.  So far I just completed my first segment from the program, and I'm very excited to continue on and see what comes next.  For the course, I had to create a mood board on Pinterest, and I wanted to share it with you!  I'd love for everyone to check it out; here's the link!  :)

It's College Time

Wearing:
Shirt - Kohls, Skirt - & Other Stories, Boots - Kohls
Lipstick - M.A.C. Red with Cherry Liner

First I would like to apologize for the not-so-great quality of some of these photos.  I had my camera set on landscape from some previous photos that I had taken, but I didn't realize it until a few hours later after I had finished with these pictures.
On Monday, it was my first day of College!  Right now I'm attending my local university so I can save money and transfer somewhere more interesting in a year or so.  This first week has been rather stressful just because of all the change.  Even though I'm going to school down the street, it's still a different education environment than what I'm used to.
For my first day of school look, I actually had a lot of trouble picking out something to wear.  Normally I have my first day outfit picked out at least one month before the start of school (if not more), but this year I just decided on this about a day and a half before.  This year I just wasn't as expired which led to me having trouble finding a direction.  I recently picked up this shirt from Kohls, and I was instantly attracted to it because of it's marble-like pattern; this had given me more interest for a first day look than anything else I had considered yet.  To make it stand out, I kept the rest of the look simple by only wearing my favorite black skirt and a new pair of black ankle boots.  Finally I added my favorite red lipstick because, really, it goes with everything.
I hope everyone else has (or had) a great first day of school!  I'm sure it will be a great year for everyone!

Berry Lips

Wearing:
Top - H&M, Skirt - H&M, Shoes - DSW
Lipstick - Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Aubergine

I was conflicted on whether to title this post, "Berry Lips," or "Mid-Summer Slump."  When this summer started, I expected to be blogging almost everyday because I wouldn't have school to distract.  Instead, it turns out, it was school that had inspired me to "dress up" on most days.  So far this summer, it's been pretty relaxing; it's my last summer before I start university and get a job, so I've actually really enjoyed doing, in a sense, nothing.  That just makes it all the more difficult to be inspired to put together new and interesting outfits.  However, next month I actually have some interesting trips planned, so stay tuned to see where I travel to (also, follow me on instagram for live updates @rockintherockiesstyle).

I recently read something somewhere that a berry lip is great for summer, which I found interesting because I had always considered it a winter color.  I decided I would try it out with an outfit that obviously screamed summer; for me, that's my camel skirt (my current favorite skirt) and light, polka dot, crop top.  Initially, I was afraid it was a bit too dark, but after looking at it in different lights, I felt that this berry shade actually looked beautiful with the white and camel.

Favorite Lipsticks // June 2015

Recently I attended orientation at my local university, and my roommate, for the week, and I got to talking about lipstick.  Where I live, there aren't a ton of people who really care about lipstick, let alone can talk about their favorites.  It really got me thinking that I should do a post about the subject, so here it is: my current favorite lipsticks.

I got the sample size of this lipstick for my birthday from Sephora, and somehow I managed to utterly destroy.  Luckily, as a graduation present, my best friend replaced it for me.  I have to say, this is the perfect color for summer; it gives just enough pink to your lips to give you a soft color, but it doesn't look like you're trying too hard.  It doesn't have the best staying power, compared to some of my other favorites, but its velvety texture and beautiful color makes me forget that I have to reapply every hour or so.

I've written about this lipstick before, but I have to say it's still a favorite.  I might be a bit biased on this one because I did buy in Paris on the Champs-Elysees, but it still gives that unexpected pop of pink that I love.  The color is bright as well as having just a touch of iridescence, making it perfect for when you want to stand out.  The staying power is okay on its own, but I usually where it with a matching lipliner making it last all day.

This is definitely my all time favorite lipstick.  I bought it two years ago and still wear it constantly (it looks like I'm gonna need to replace it soon too).  If you put it straight on your lips, it looks almost like it could be a magenta which is why I always wear it with the MAC Cherry Liner.  By wearing both of those, it lasts all day without any touch up, and it's as red a stop sign.  Whenever I wear it I always get tons of complements, so this is always my go to shade.

(From top to bottom)
NARS
CHANEL
M.A.C.

What are your favorite lipsticks?  I'm always on the look out for the next ex-favorite lipstick (Jurassic Park reference, sorry -- I hope you get it!).

Camel Coat

 Wearing:
Coat - Boohoo, Blouse - Forever 21, Jeans - Kohls, Shoes - Steve Madden, Socks - Primark
Lipstick - M.A.C. Red with Cherry Liner

I apologize for my absense; these past two weeks have consisted of early finals, essay deadlines, preparing for AP exams (which are this week and next week), and a very ill timed prom (I post about it soon!).  However, I have now taken two of my exams and turned everything in that I needed to.
Because of everything going on, I actually shot these photos weeks ago.  I ordered this camel coat from boohoo which I absolutely adore, unfortunately though that was one of the last days where it was actually cold enough for me to wear it.  Now it's actually been pretty warm around here, with the exception of a few rainy days.
Not to overshadow the coat, I decided to wear neutral tones: blacks and whites.  Skinny jeans and a tailored blouse are something that I wear all the time; the shoes, on the other hand, I recently picked up from a thrift store.  They are brand new Steve Maddens, and I picked them up for $6!  They're slightly too small, but for only $6 I don't mind that I can't wear them all of the time.  Finally I added my favorite red lip to pop against all of the neutrals.

(P.S.  As of recent my brand new laptop has stopped working, so it's in the shop.  This means that I will be posting even less than I would like because I'll be sharing my mother's computer.  Hopefully it's nothing major, and it will be back home soon.)

Wait... Snow?!

Wearing:
Coat - Forever 21, Jumper - Vince Camuto, Jeans - Topshop, Boots - Dr. Martens, Hat - Target, Scarf - unknown
Lipstick - M.A.C Red with Cherry Liner

These are forgotten photos from January, right?
Wrong.
Last week it snowed, like hard core snowed.  It went went being about 70 degrees to a foot of snow in 24 hours.  It was ridiculous.  However, since I do seem to be having a hard time giving up my jumpers and cardigans, this gave me one more chance to wear all of my warm clothes.
I recently discovered this scarf that was buried deep inside my coat closet; to be honest, I have no recollection of this scarf, but my mom insists that I've had it for years.  Basing the look around that, I decided to keep to greys, whites, and blacks so the pastel blue would pop.  My Vince Camuto jumper is always a go-to of mine when it's chilly, so I paired that with my high waist Topshop jeans and my favorite grey coat.  Since there was about a foot of snow, my Docs were one of my few options (I really should have more snow friendly shoes seeing that it does snow for about six months of the year where I live).  After putting the look together, the blue just wasn't enough of a pop; the red lip was the perfect addition.  Finally I threw on a hat because it was actually cold outside.
The "perks" of living here; it can snow literally anytime of the year.  Luckily the locals are used to it since the next day kids still came to school wearing shorts.

Let's Mix

Wearing:
Jacket - unknown, T-Shirt - Forever 21, Skirt - & Other Stories, Purse - Zara, Boots - Steve Madden

Almost two years ago, when I was in London, I stepped into a magical store called & Other Stories.  I immediately fell in love, but at the time I couldn't afford anything in the store.  After arriving back home, I thought I would order something off their website, but alas, they didn't ship their products to the US.  I kept waiting, and it wasn't until recently when they finally started a US site (I have a post about it here).  I had forgotten that they opened a store in New York, so when I was there last month I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon one!  Of course I wanted to buy the whole store, but I decided to just start with this amazing skirt.  I've been obsessed with two trends recently: neoprene and the midi skirt length; both of which this skirt has.  It's also amazing quality, so I will definitely be purchasing more from & Other Stories! <3
Styling this skirt, I deciding to do some pattern mixing.  First I picked the striped top, then I went for the leopard print ankle boots.  Because the patterns are so different, and I have the skirt separating them, I think they work incredibly well together.  I added my white leather jacket that I picked up at a small boutique in Paris and this new purse that I bought at Zara on my recent New York trip.  Finally I put on my purple lipstick because it had just been too long since I had last worn it.
