Petals

Wearing:
Shirt - Topshop, Skirt - Zara, Sneakers - Adidas Superstars, Necklace - Target, Sunglasses - Tahari

Spring is easily my favorite season.  I love the rain that's often seen, but the best part is the spring bloom.  I wish that the flowers would last longer, as they're often gone after a week or so, but they're gorgeous while they're here.
I wanted to wear something that wouldn't distract from the pink flowers, so I stuck to neutral colors.  This midi skirt from Zara has been a favorite of mine ever since I bought it in January.  It was also pretty hot when I took these photos, so I just wore a tee and sneakers.  I was wearing a different shirt, but I only lasted about 15 minutes before I changed into something lighter.
I'm hoping to get at least one more day of flowers from the trees so I can get more photos, but we'll see.  Now that school is over, I'm hoping to have more time for pictures.

Half and Half

Wearing:
Jacket - Mudd, Shirt - New Look, Jeans - Topshop Mom Jeans, Sandals - Target, Purse - Clarks, Sunglasses - Tahari

It's official: I've completed my first year at university.  This week has been finals week, and I had my last exam yesterday.  I still have to wait a few days to receive my grades, but I'm officially on summer break!  I'm especially excited because I've been accepted to study fashion in London!  I'll give you more details when it gets closer, but this fall I'll be leaving the Rocky Mountains behind and following my dreams to London.  I'm pretty darn excited.
This week, it's been getting really warm again.  Sandals are now the shoe of choice around town; while most of the locals sport Chacos, I much prefer my flatforms.  I paired them with my mom jeans that I haven't been able to take off since I got them and attempted "half-tucking" my shirt.  What do you think of this trend?  I've seen it done with tons of bloggers and on the Topshop site, but my mom just doesn't get it.  Maybe this should be a "Trends My Mom Hates"?  Anyway, lastly I draped my jacket because it was just too warm to actually wear it.

Almost There

Wearing:
Pinafore - Boohoo, Blouse - Primark, Sneakers - Adidas Superstars, Necklace - Target, Cuff - H&M

Sorry for the absence.  I've been crazy busy with school lately; all of my final projects have been due this week and next week are the exams, so I've been working to finish all of them in time.  Unfortunately, this means that I had to put my blog to the back burner.
I managed to take these pictures sometime last week.  Last week felt like summer; everyday it was sixty to seventy degrees and no jacket was needed.  This week, it definitely felt like spring.  It's rained everyday with the exception of yesterday when it snowed.  Yep.  You read that correctly.  Snow.  I hate to say it, but it's actually not that unusual for it to snow in April.  Last year we were hit with a ton, but it usually only lasts for a day or so before the sun returns.  Last week I was able to get away with this light, pinafore look... this week I've been cosied up in jumpers and coats.  That's unpredictable weather for you.

La Vie en Gris

Wearing:
Leather Jacket - Kohls, Dress - WhoWhatWear for Target, Turtleneck - Boohoo, Boots - Monki

Doesn't my skin look weirdly grey in these pictures?  It's my fault; it was rather late when I took these photos yesterday, so the sun had already set.  I tried my best to fix the initial darkness of these photos in Lightroom, but I think they were a bit beyond repair (I mean, would you believe me if I told you that these are incredibly warmer than the originals?).  Anyway, I picked up this dress a while ago from Target's WhoWhatWear collection (I talked about it here), and I have been wearing it non-stop.  It's a great transitional piece because on cooler days I can pair it with a turtleneck and boots, but when it's warmer all I need is a pair of sandals.  The only thing that's tricky about this dress is that when it's windy, I definitely find myself having a Marilyn Monroe moment.
In other news, it snowed today.  Yep.  Snow.  It's was 70 degrees yesterday, and today it snowed.  It's already almost gone, but that just goes to show how crazy the weather is here.

It's Getting Hot Out Here

Wearing:
Jacket - Kohls, Shirt - Zara, Jeans - BDG (Urban Outfitters), Boots - Monki, Sunglasses - Tahari

Based on the recent weather, one would guess that spring has finally arrived!  Sure, less than a week ago it was still snowing, but for the past day or two it's been sixty degrees!  As much as I enjoy the warm weather, it took me a bit by surprise; wearing a turtleneck, leather jacket, and thick socks/boots was way heavier than I needed.  So many people across campus were wearing shorts and sandals (although, at my campus, a number of people will wear summer attire with six inches of snow outside - I'm not kidding).  I was incredibly hot and probably should have at least taken off my jacket... but then the ensemble just wouldn't be the same, would it?  Maybe I'll retire this turtleneck for the season, or maybe I'll just continue being overheated.

Family Heirloom

Wearing:
Coat - Vintage, Hat - Vintage, Jeans - Topshop Mom Jeans, Blouse - Zara, Shoes - DSW

Isn't great when you find family heirlooms?  I was getting dressed yesterday when I found this brown, suede coat that belonged to my grandma in the 1970s.  It's amazingly on trend, and I didn't even know we had it!  After finding this coat, I grabbed this wide-brimmed fedora that also belonged to my grandma, and what do you know?  A modern look created vintage pieces!

WhoWhatWear for Target

I love it when Target does these special collections.  Usually I like to go on the day it drops so I have the most selection.  However, this time I completely forgot about this collection.  Maybe it was because of my travels from earlier or because of how busy I am with school, but the other day I was just walking through Target and noticed the display.  Lately it seems like a lot of Target's collections have been selling quickly, so I was surprised when they still had a ton of merchandise left.  This is one of the few advantages to living in a non-fashion oriented town because these collections never sell out.  They had a ton of great pieces, but ultimately I decided to go with just these two pieces.  Clearly I have a thing for black and white and stripes, but that's not really a surprise, is it?  The white and black blouse reminds me of a mix between 1970s and 1830s; an odd combination of eras, but that's truly what it reminds me of.  And the dress is actually has an asymmetrical hemline, even though it's kind of hard to tell here.  I'm really excited to start wearing both pieces because it's actually starting to feel like spring here.  You'll be seeing both of these pieces again very soon.

Here Comes the Sun

Wearing:
Dress - Kensie, Jacket - Mudd, Shoes - Steve Madden
Makeup:
Eyeshadow/Eyeliner - Sephora, Mascara - Bourjois

A bit of a change in location; do you like it?
Well the school year is almost over, meaning graduation is near.  My mom and I realized that we hadn't sent out my grad announcements yet.  My mom wanted to use one photo, while I wanted to use another.  Our compromise?  Take new photos.  We decided to go to a local park because at the time it was much more green there than my neighborhood.
For this shoot, knowing that the photos would be sent to family, I decided to go for something a bit more classic.  I've been waiting for an occasion to wear this dress, and I think this shoot was perfect for it.  It was a bit breezy that day, so I added black tights.  To keep the look classic, I decided on these black oxfords and neutral eye makeup.  However, right before I left for the park, I threw on my leather jacket because I think it's more me.
Because the photos turned out so well, my mom and I had no trouble choosing a photo, and my grad announcements turned out wonderful.  :)

Wait... Snow?!

Wearing:
Coat - Forever 21, Jumper - Vince Camuto, Jeans - Topshop, Boots - Dr. Martens, Hat - Target, Scarf - unknown
Lipstick - M.A.C Red with Cherry Liner

These are forgotten photos from January, right?
Wrong.
Last week it snowed, like hard core snowed.  It went went being about 70 degrees to a foot of snow in 24 hours.  It was ridiculous.  However, since I do seem to be having a hard time giving up my jumpers and cardigans, this gave me one more chance to wear all of my warm clothes.
I recently discovered this scarf that was buried deep inside my coat closet; to be honest, I have no recollection of this scarf, but my mom insists that I've had it for years.  Basing the look around that, I decided to keep to greys, whites, and blacks so the pastel blue would pop.  My Vince Camuto jumper is always a go-to of mine when it's chilly, so I paired that with my high waist Topshop jeans and my favorite grey coat.  Since there was about a foot of snow, my Docs were one of my few options (I really should have more snow friendly shoes seeing that it does snow for about six months of the year where I live).  After putting the look together, the blue just wasn't enough of a pop; the red lip was the perfect addition.  Finally I threw on a hat because it was actually cold outside.
The "perks" of living here; it can snow literally anytime of the year.  Luckily the locals are used to it since the next day kids still came to school wearing shorts.
