Jail House Rock

Wearing
Shirt - Zara | Jeans - BDG from Urban Outfitters | Shoes - Steve Madden

Whenever I wear this outfit, I feel like I should be in a 1950s style music video that takes place in a jail.  I think it's the bold black and white stripes on the top that make it feel like vintage prison jumpsuits.  However, I just really feel like I need some back-up dancers.  The first time I wore this outfit was a few weeks ago when I went to see Finding Dory with my friends (side note: if you haven't seen Finding Dory yet, it's a must see.  I've already seen it twice.).  They offered to be my backup dancers so hopefully in the next month or so we'll drop our first music video.
To keep the 'vintage jail aesthetic', I kept the styling very simple.  Plain black jeans, black oxfords, and no jewelry had just the minimal look I wanted.  Perhaps red lipstick would have been better for the 1950s music video part, but I can't stop wearing nude lipstick at the moment.
In other news, my photographer/mom is already getting better with the manual focus lens.  I'll be going to Portland sometime next month, so hopefully by then we'll both be a pro at it.

La Vie en Gris

Wearing:
Leather Jacket - Kohls, Dress - WhoWhatWear for Target, Turtleneck - Boohoo, Boots - Monki

Doesn't my skin look weirdly grey in these pictures?  It's my fault; it was rather late when I took these photos yesterday, so the sun had already set.  I tried my best to fix the initial darkness of these photos in Lightroom, but I think they were a bit beyond repair (I mean, would you believe me if I told you that these are incredibly warmer than the originals?).  Anyway, I picked up this dress a while ago from Target's WhoWhatWear collection (I talked about it here), and I have been wearing it non-stop.  It's a great transitional piece because on cooler days I can pair it with a turtleneck and boots, but when it's warmer all I need is a pair of sandals.  The only thing that's tricky about this dress is that when it's windy, I definitely find myself having a Marilyn Monroe moment.
In other news, it snowed today.  Yep.  Snow.  It's was 70 degrees yesterday, and today it snowed.  It's already almost gone, but that just goes to show how crazy the weather is here.

Wednesday on Saturday

Wearing:
Dress - Zara, Shoes - Steve Madden

Today I was channeling my inner Wednesday Adams.  To me, she's really not that far off from a style inspiration; her combination of collared dresses and a black and white color palette are perfect for me (not to mention her bad-ass attitude).  The only trouble I had in completing my look was the braids.  Fun fact: I don't know how to braid.  I know, I know... I'm sure you're thinking how can I be interested in fashion and not know how to braid?  Honestly?  I'm not sure either; the whole concept of braiding has always been incredibly confusing for me.  If I had a dollar for every time someone told me, "I can teach anyone how to braid," I would be incredibly wealthy.  Anyway, I had my mom do the braids for me; maybe someday I'll figure it out, but today is not the day.

WhoWhatWear for Target

I love it when Target does these special collections.  Usually I like to go on the day it drops so I have the most selection.  However, this time I completely forgot about this collection.  Maybe it was because of my travels from earlier or because of how busy I am with school, but the other day I was just walking through Target and noticed the display.  Lately it seems like a lot of Target's collections have been selling quickly, so I was surprised when they still had a ton of merchandise left.  This is one of the few advantages to living in a non-fashion oriented town because these collections never sell out.  They had a ton of great pieces, but ultimately I decided to go with just these two pieces.  Clearly I have a thing for black and white and stripes, but that's not really a surprise, is it?  The white and black blouse reminds me of a mix between 1970s and 1830s; an odd combination of eras, but that's truly what it reminds me of.  And the dress is actually has an asymmetrical hemline, even though it's kind of hard to tell here.  I'm really excited to start wearing both pieces because it's actually starting to feel like spring here.  You'll be seeing both of these pieces again very soon.
