Ah, the Golden Globes. The first show to kick off awards season. I love awards season because I love seeing all of the designer gowns that I've been eyeing since they debuted actually being worn out and about. The Globes' starts off each celebrity's style for the rest of the season, and as it goes on, it's fun to predict what each person might wear. So here's my list of the best dressed of the night. I already can't wait for the SAGs to arrive.
MICHELLE WILLIAMS | LOUIS VUITTON
Michelle Williams has a contract with Louis Vuitton, so I had a sneaking suspicion that that's who she'd be wearing. I was watching E!'s red carpet countdown, and stylist Brad Goreski predicted that she would wear a gown by Gucci, and frankly I was surprised that he didn't predict LV; I felt that he should have known about their constant collaborations. Anyway, I just love the softness of the off-the-shoulders, but the real kicker is the velvet choker; I adore it. And the fact that it's off center makes it even better.
NATALIE PORTMAN | PRADA
When I first saw this gown I actually thought it was vintage. Natalie Portman was nominated for her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy in the film Jackie; it often seems that stars try to match watch they're wearing to the theme of the film that they're representing. This empire waist style of dress was popular during the 1960s, so I not only think it's beautifully flatters her pregnant bump, but also honors the time period of the film.
EMMA STONE | VALENTINO
Like Natalie Portman, the gown the Emma chose perfectly represents her film, La La Land.

Just like the movie, this star embellished pink gown took my breath away without being over the top.
EVAN RACHEL WOOD | ALTUZARRA
There were so many suits that hit to carpet tonight, and as great as each one was, Evan's just stood above the rest. It fit perfectly and made her look ten feet tall. It was the perfect mix of masculine and feminine while showing girls dresses aren't a requirement.
RUTH NEGGA | LOUIS VUITTON
Another LV gown! Completely different from the last, Ruth's dress looked like liquid metal, and I think fits the metallic trend perfectly. It reminds me a bit of Gwyneth Paltrow's 2011 Oscar dress, but Ruth always seems to know how to make things her own. Keep an eye on her this season, as she's definitely the style star to watch.
CLAIRE FOY | ERDEM
No wonder I love this gown; Erdem is one of my favorite designers, and I feel just isn't worn enough on the red carpet. I love the 1930s/1940s feel of this gown as her show, The Crown, partially takes place in the 1940s. It's an unusual style of dress that I don't think is often seen at awards shows, which is why I love it so much.
TRACEE ELLIS ROSS | ZUHAIR MURAD
I love, love, love the length of this dress. It fits her so perfectly, and I love that she kept her accessories rather minimal to show off the detailing of the gown (well, except for her many rings, of course). She's also the first black actress to win in her category since the 1980s, so I'm so incredibly happy for her!
And now we have the runners-up. I loved these five as well, but they just weren't enough to make it to my official "Best Dressed" list.
NICOLE KIDMAN | ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
LILY COLLINS | ZUHAIR MURAD
MILLIE BOBBY BROWN | JENNY PACKHAM
RILEY KEOUGH | CHANEL
KERRY WASHINGTON | DOLCE & GABBANA
Finally the after parties....
YARA SHAHIDI | SCHIAPARELLI
CONSTANCE WU | MARCHESA
SARAH HYLAND | AMANDA WAKELY
JANELLE MONAE | GEORGES CHAKRAS
PETRA COLLINS | GUCCI

There were so many after parties and so many guests, it was had to pick my favorites, but I somehow managed to pick these five. What I loved about the after parties was how there was a lot more risks with color. At the awards themselves it seemed like most people wore metallics or neutrals. Yara Shahidi wore a fun and youthful pink dress and Petra Collins went crazy with the primary colors.
