This summer I've been lucky to be able to do a bit of traveling around Europe. Thus far I've gone to Antwerp and Copenhagen, and last weekend I went on my first ever work trip to Gent, Belgium. I don't want to go into too much detail about what I did there (or at least not until the new issue comes out), but over the last five weeks I was interning at the magazine Tank. I can honestly say that it was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. I know that I made friends for life there, and I already miss it. During my final week interning, this opportunity to travel to Gent for a photoshoot came up, and I was lucky enough to be able to go!
Having already gone to Antwerp this year, I had an idea of what the city might be like: friendly people, beautiful architecture, and lots of bikes. It was just that, however Gent is smaller and situated on the river - I suppose you could say it's not as 'cool' of a city as Antwerp. My friend described Gent as a smaller and nicer version of Amsterdam. I've yet to visit there, but from what I've seen and heard of it, I definitely think that's an accurate description.
I didn't really have any time to do any traditional sight seeing or go to any museums, but I was able to snap a few pictures. Gent definitely has no shortage of churches - and there's even a castle in the city! I wish I could tell you more about what I saw or give some recommendations on what to see, but I left almost as soon as I arrived and never got the name of any of the buildings or churches I passed. Although, I was there long enough to get a pretty nasty sunburn on my back! Don't forget to reapply the sunscreen, kids!!
