#NoSpendNovember

Like most bloggers and instagrammers of the world, I love shopping.  To be honest, it's always been one of my favorite activities.  Growing up in a small town with not the greatest of selections, one of my favorite things to do when I would travel would be to shop.  However, now in the age of technology, shopping has become even easier; I no longer have to wait to spend my money until I get to a city with the stores that I want to shop at.  Unfortunately, because of the constantness of it, fast fashion has developed in order to keep with it all.  Fast fashion is now one of the biggest polluters in the world and is terrible for the environment.  I - like most people - have bought my fair share of it.  But, I want to start making a difference.  It may be small, but I think it's a good place to start.  For the month of November,  I won't be buying any new clothes (#NoSpendNovember).  Here are the rules I'm setting for myself:

1) No new clothes/shoes/accessories.  I'll try my best not to buy anything, but I might an exception if it's secondhand.
2) I will only buy new clothes for others as gifts (Christmas is coming up)
3) I will only buy new clothes for myself if it's an emergency (I'm not exactly sure what constitutes as an emergency, but I'm sure in the moment I'll know).

As often as I tend to buy things, and I've definitely been buying more since moving to London, I'm proud with how long I keep my clothes.  There's this new trend going on where people buy things, and once it's been photographed for either their blog and/or their Instagram, they feel that they can't wear it anymore.  Sure, I love seeing new and interesting pieces on social media, but what I love more is seeing how people can re-wear the same clothes!  Take these Dr. Martens that I'm wearing as an example: I've had them since I was 13 - luckily my feet stopped growing when they did - and I'm continually finding new things to pair them with.  This grey coat, which is my absolute go-to during the fall and winter months, I'll have had for three years this December.  The bag, though new, I bought second hand at a charity sale whilst I was interning this summer.  Despite being small, this pretty much holds everything I need on a day to day basis.  The only "new-new" thing I'm wearing in these photos is the skirt which I bought at the end of August, but I intend to wear it for a long time.

So, what do you think?  Do you want to take part too?  Think my rules are fair?  Let me know in the comments!
